The CHIMERA is a 100% European-made single-channel preamp/DI box with both valve and discrete solid-state circuits. This preamplifier is easily switched between the transparent, crystal clear sound of a solid-state amplifier to the smooth tones of a valve preamp.

The design of CHIMERA's vintage circuitry is unlike any other and is built using quality traditional components and custom transformers. It is an affordable choice to complete the front end of any recording chain. In addition to its ability to switch from solid-state to valve, the Sontronics CHIMERA also allows fine adjustments to be made using its variable high-pass filter, three-stage attenuation, and phase controls. With its near-linear frequency response and electronically balanced inputs/outputs, the CHIMERA will capture the unique characteristics of your favorite subject, while maintaining a high level of signal integrity.

The Chimera hybrid preamp is a single-channel preamp/ DI box that offers 2 discrete vintage-design circuits. With a full 60dB of distortion-free headroom at your disposal, you can choose between the crystal-clear, lightning-quick transient response of the solid-state amplifier or the smooth, natural compression served up by the valve preamp.

Further fine adjustments can be made using the 6-step high-pass filter, attenuation and phase controls, enabling Chimera to create an infinite number of sonic colorations.

Chimera has a transformer-balanced input and is able to handle analogue signals at line level, DI’d instruments, and any microphone, phantom-powered, ribbon or dynamic. It has balanced XLR and Jack I/O, a TRS jack insert point, an I/O VU meter, signal and clip LEDs and a 32-step master output control. Chimera is the perfect analogue preamp/DI solution for anyone with recording, broadcast or sound reinforcement needs.
